WHY WELLNESS?

Wellness Counseling focuses upon the crisis or problem the individual is experiencing but also encourages the person to become aware of how they can make choices towards a more successful life. Wellness recognizes that everyone on the planet faces challenges or problems from time to time and that these issues impact family members, social relationships with others, health, the ways we respond emotionally, how we behave, our spirituality, our finances and our work.
The goal of Wellness Counseling is to stimulate personal awareness, teach life skills and support and encourage individuals to take responsibility for their choices and the consequences of their behavior. Wellness is positive and affirming.

EMOTIONAL
The emotional dimension of wellness recognizes the importance of awareness and acceptance of one's feelings. Emotional wellness includes the degree to which one feels positive and enthusiastic about oneself and life. It includes the capacity to manage one's feelings and related behaviors including the realistic assessment of one's limitations, development of autonomy, and ability to cope effectively with stress. The well person maintains satisfying relationships with others. You'll take on challenges, take risks, and recognize conflict as being potentially healthy.

PHYSICAL
 Recognizes the value of work and personal satisfaction and enrichment in one's life through the ability to earn a living. In our current economy. It hurts when one has lost a job or cannot find a job due to lack of job training or incarceration. Wellness Counseling recognizes that the inability to find meaningful work results in lost housing and difficulty meetng basic needs.

INTELLECTUAL
The intellectual dimension of wellness recognizes the importance of one’s creative and stimulating mental activities. A well person expands their knowledge and skills while discovering the potential for sharing their gifts with others. A well person cherishes intellectual growth and stimulation and views life’s challenges as opportunities for growth.

SPIRITUAL
The spiritual dimension of wellness recognizes that we need meaning and purpose in our lives. We may experience feelings of despair, doubt, fear, disappointment and loss as well as feelings of pleasure, joy, happiness and discovery. We all struggle to become well spiritually and fell well when our actions become more consistent with our beliefs and values

OCCUPATIONAL WELLNESS
 The occupational dimension of wellness recognizes the importance of personal satisfaction and enrichment in one's life through work. We feel good when we can use our unique gifts, skills and talents to engage in work that is both personally meaningful and rewarding.

SOCIAL
The social dimension encourages contributing to one's environment and community. It emphasizes the interdependence between you and others and the power to make choices to enhance personal relationships, important friendships, and build a better living space and community. Social wellness stresses the idea that it is better to contribute to the common welfare of our community than to think only of ourselves.
